     The central Zionist motif, the Star of David, is featured in the center of the canvas, with shades of blue, recalling the Star at the center of the Israeli flag. Running through the blue Star is a map of the State of Israel, in muddy and sandy shades of yellow and brown, with elements of green, largely in the north of the map where the dessert is less barren and the landscape more lush. At the center of Star is an outline of the West Bank – the outline recalls the face of Theodore Herzl. At the bottom of the canvas is ‘1948’, the year that the state was born. Surrounding the map are elements of blue, where water exists, and ‘blood’ red, reminiscent of nearly constant warfare. The puzzle-like outlines have a number of circular elements, symbolizing turmoil, as well as return.
